About Petros

 

Originally from Loannina, a home for many aristocratic families since the Ottoman Empire, owner Petros Benekos lived in Venice, Italy until he was four years old when his family moved to Athens. When he turned 16, he went to work at resort hotels and private yachts in the Greek Isles every summer, gaining knowledge about the hospitality business. At 19, he began studying French literature in the south of France, also working in popular clubs of Monaco and Cannes. He even worked at the exclusive Elounda Mare in Crete. Before arriving in Los Angeles, Petros spent time in London where he mastered English while learning the tools of the fashion industry by working for various upscale boutiques including a renowned leather manufacturer. Now the restless Petros (who also sells his own line of designer jeans at Petros Vintage, two doors from his Manhattan Beach restaurant) has focused his impressive expertise on Petros Los Olivos.

 

Petros Los Olivos combines the modern Greek fare offered in fine specialty restaurants in Athens and on the popular islands of Greece with a sophisticated, authentic touch rarely seen in the States, providing an experience unlike any other. Petros makes sure that the dishes reflect his “mother’s way,” which is evident throughout the menu. The restaurant reflects the haute cuisine of Athens and its islands with dishes such as its fresh fish of the day, grilled to perfection exactly as they have been doing for centuries in Greece. Petros’ mother and aunt spent three months in the restaurant kitchen prior to its opening, and visit regularly to ensure that the details of the menu stay true to Greece.

 

Petros Greek Cuisine (his first restaurant in Manhattan Beach) was awarded Top Newcomer by the 2007 Zagat Survey of Los Angeles, has been featured on KABC News’s Top 7 Restaurants and KNBC’s Your L.A., and tied with Wolfgang Puck’s “Cut” as Los Angeles Magazine’s 2nd best new restaurant for 2007. Most recently, Petros opened a third location on State Street in Santa Barbara.
